The procedure:

After the anaesthesia has been administered and the surgical field has been prepared, the pilonidal cyst is cut in its upper end. Using a probe, the channels of the sinus tract are broadened. Subsequently, a laser radial fibre is inserted to the sack of the cyst and laser ablation of its walls is conducted, using a 1470nm wavelength laser. A surgical spoon is used to clean the sack and the sinus tract from the skin debris and hair. After the procedure a sterile dressing is applied. Directly after the conclusion of the procedure the patient is able to leave the treatment room and go home.

Recommendations after treatment:

- in the initial period it is essential to change the dressing every day and sanitize the wound with a sterilising solution
- after a couple of days, the wound can be cleaned with soap water
- until the wound is healed, dressings should be used
